Stories and Journeys

What is it that fuels each and every one of us in this world? For me, it is the journeys I take every day when I wake up and walk out the door.  Journeys of the Mind, Journeys of the Body, and Journeys of the Soul.   Since I got started as an Internal Medicine physician in private practice in 1995, I have found such a sense of fulfillment in my own life. I enjoy talking to my patients, figuring out who they are and what they need.  Over the past 25 years, I've garnered a reputation for treating the most difficult patients, the ones that many doctors have given up on.  It is these challenging patients that have the most interesting stories to tell.  They and all of humanity keeps me entranced .  Such that I am constantly traveling , constantly volunteering on trips to far flung locales.  Just so I can talk to the people in that city, those villages, to hear their stories.  To date I have traveled to all 50 of the amazing United States (with 4 kids in tow) as well as most of Western Europe and Eastern Asia.  The many stories of all the people all over the world helps me to remember the big picture, of our places in the world.  It helps to keep my soul in balance.
I'd like to share their random stories and my worldview with anyone looking for a balanced perspective on life or just looking to learn a little from my journeys over the years.  Maybe we can all get a little wiser, a little less stressed, and re-discover the joy in listening to other human beings and learning from them.  After all , that is what it means to be a Homo Sapiens.  We think, we learn, we teach.
